Meet Nikki Afu

Hi, my name is Nikki Afu and I am a Certified Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioner, Registered Midwife and mother of four amazing children.

I currently work as a Clinical Midwife at the Gold Coast Private Hospital. I found my passion for Midwifery and antenatal education, when I gave birth to my first child in 2006. I was 21, vulnerable and in need of support. I did not attend antenatal classes, so I wasn’t too sure of what to expect. Fortunately, I had an amazing midwife who showed me such kindness, strength, and advocated for me when I needed her to. It was after meeting this woman that I knew I wanted to support women like she had supported me. So, after giving birth to my second child 19 months later, I took myself off to University and studied a Bachelor of Midwifery and graduated in 2013.

Our Services

While working as a midwife I could see that women were seeking out antenatal education that focused on learning breathing techniques and “tools” for labour and birth, and where their birth partners could learn ways in supporting them. This is what led me to become a Certified Hypnobirthing Australia Practitioner.

When teaching the Hypnobirthing Australia program, my philosophy is founded on creating a space where woman and their birth partners feel supported, where their emotional, spiritual and cultural needs are recognised, and prepare you with the knowledge, mindset and tools you need to achieve a positive birth.

My classes teach women and their birth partners evidence-based information for them to make decisions regarding their care in collaboration with their care givers, such as their midwives and Obstetricians.
